Binary to Text Converter

Paste binary code into the first field, and the text appears as you type. Every character of a text is stored as one or more bytes, and a byte is written as eight binary digits, so 01001000 01101001 is Hi. The bytes can be separated by spaces, commas or line breaks, or written as one long string of zeros and ones, which the converter splits into groups of eight. A byte can also lose its leading zeros, so 1000001 is A. Groups that are not bytes, such as a 2 or a group of nine digits, are listed under the result instead of being dropped. By default the bytes are read as UTF-8, the encoding of almost every web page, in which letters with accents, Cyrillic, Chinese and emoji take two to four bytes.

Binary code from older files and programs can use another encoding, and you can choose it in the “Encoding” list: ASCII, UTF-16, the Windows code pages for Western and Central European languages, Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish, Thai and Vietnamese, KOI8-R, Shift_JIS and EUC-JP for Japanese, GB18030 and Big5 for Chinese, EUC-KR for Korean, or “Unicode code points”, where each group is the number of one character. “Text to binary” and “Swap” turn the converter around, and “Open a file” reads binary code from a text file of up to 1 MB.
