Why copied texts have broken lines

Text copied from a PDF file, an email or an old website often keeps the line breaks of its layout, so lines end in the middle of a sentence. Paste such a text, and the tool joins the lines at once and shows how many line breaks it removed. With “Keep paragraphs”, the empty line between two paragraphs stays and only the breaks inside a paragraph go. Untick it to get the whole text as a single line.

Under “Replace line breaks with”, choose what takes the place of each break: a space, nothing or a comma, or choose “Your own” and type any separator, such as a semicolon. “Join words split by a hyphen at the end of a line” glues a word that was cut at the end of a line back together, when the next line starts with a small letter. “Remove extra spaces” turns repeated spaces into one and trims every line. The text is changed in your browser and is not uploaded.
